Student Admissions, Outcomes, and Other Data

Disclosure of Student Admissions, Education/Training Outcomes, and Information Allowing for Informed Decision-Making to Prospective Doctoral Students

The Clinical Child Psychology Program at the University of Kansas is accredited by the American Psychological Association* and provides education and training information to potential students, current students and the public about program processes and outcomes, including time to completion, program costs, internships, attrition, and licensure.

Furthermore, as a member program of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP), the CCPP has a history of providing such comparative information. Quoting from the CUDCP website: "The member programs of CUDCP support the provision of fuller disclosure about operations and outcomes of our educational endeavors" (http://cudcp.us/address/univlinks.php).

Consequently, the KU CCPP provides the following performance and outcome data pertaining to the education of its graduate students. We are using the matrix format suggested by APA Commission on Accreditation and CUDCP so that prospective students can have consistent and interpretable information across programs.

We recognize, and hope that prospective applicants appreciate as well, that these numbers may mean very little. Such numbers do not tell all about our students. Our Program is definitely not one that screens applicants only on GRE scores, for example, in order to report high scores as indicating something about our students' qualities. We have found many excellent students who have experiences and abilities not reflected in particularly high scores. Students present various credentials and we review all applications for admission. In its applications review, the CCPP Admissions Committee considers: (a) research experiences (b) clinical and "people" experiences (c) quality of undergraduate/graduate training and specificity of letters of recommendation (d) GRE/GPA (e) fit of applicant's interests to program features.

What is important for an applicant is that this Program truly engages in "truth in advertising" about what it does. We provide much information about the KU Clinical Child Psychology Program as a specialty so that the student finds a "happy home" with us or with another training program in the country, whichever best fits his or her interests.
