Outstanding Poster Award for Diversity
Marilyn Sampilo won the Outstanding Poster Award for attention to issues of diversity from the Society of Pediatric Psychology for her first authored poster entitled "Acculturation Among Mexican-American Participants in a Family-Based Obesity Intervention Program" with co-authors: Marilyn L. Sampilo, Ann M. Davis, Yasuko Landrum, Marina Daldalian, & Kelsey Dean.

The CCPP is pleased to announce that two students received high honors at the Spring 2010 Society of Behavioral Medicine Conference in Seattle:
Chad Jensen was awarded the "Meritorious Student Paper" citation and the SBM Student Special Interest Group Research Award (an abstract appears in Annals of Behavioral Medicine, Volume 39, 2010 Supplement, s215) for his paper: Effectiveness of Motivational Interviewing Interventions for Pediatric Health Behavior Change: A Meta-analytic Review.
Christopher Cushing was awarded "Meritorious Student Poster" citation for his poster: Initial Development and Testing of an Electronic Assessment Tool for Pediatric Pain. An abstract appears in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine, Volume 39, 2010 Supplement).
John Paul Legerski (and Sarah Bunnell in Developmental) have been selected for the 2010 Graduate Student Ethics Prize from APA for their paper The Risks, Benefits, and Ethics of Trauma-focused Research Participation. This award is chosen by APA Ethics Committee. They will present their paper at the APA 2010 Annual Convention in San Diego and the article will be published in the journal Ethics and Behavior.
The KU Clinical Child Psychology Program received the 2009 Richard Suinn Minority Achievement Award from the American Psychological Association for itssuccess in recruiting, retaining and graduating a diverse graduate student group. The award was given at the APA convention in Toronto, August 2009.

In July, 2008, the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association* granted the KU Clinical Child Psychology Program seven (7) years accreditation.

First of the Year Party August 23, 2008 and celebrating award of 7 years accreditation
Sangeeta Parikshak was awarded the Michael Sullivan Diversity Scholarship Award from the American Psychological Association for her dissertation research project: Community organizations and academic achievement: Motivation for academic success in low-income African American youth. Dr. Yo Jackson is her dissertation advisor. The award was announced at the APA State Leadership Conference in March, 2009.
Sara Gould and Sarah Beals of the Clinical Child Psychology Program received the “Excellence in Research Poster of the Year Award” from the Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice of the American Psychological Association at the 2008 annual convention in Boston. With advisor Michael C. Roberts, Ph.D., their poster was entitled “State Mental Health Plans: Components and Comprehensiveness.”
Timothy D. Nelson, of the Clinical Child Psychology Program, received the 2008 Dissertation Award from the Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice (Division 37 of the American Psychological Association) for his dissertation: “Practitioner Perspectives on Evidence-Based Practice: Toward a Model for Designing, Evaluating, and Disseminating Treatments with Research Support” at the annual convention in Boston. Ric Steele, Ph.D. was Dr. Nelson’s advisor at KU.
Michael C. Roberts, Ph.D., Professor and Director of the Clinical Child Psychology Program, was presented the 2008 Martin P. Levin Mentorship Award for outstanding service in guiding and supporting students by the Society of Pediatric Psychology, of the American Psychological Association at the annual convention in Boston.

In recognition of more than thirty years of energetic and visionary service to the field of clinical child psychology and to the profession of psychology, especially through his leadership within the American Psychological Association. Dr. Michael C. Robert's sustained involvement in and contribution to research and practice concerning the physical and mental health and well-being of children has ranged broadly, including such areas as children's and parent's perceptions of pediatric and psychological conditions and treatments, prevention of injuries and health promotion in children, and the role of positive psychology in children's development. He has helped to shape the field through his unflagging commitment to psychotherapeutic outcomes research and program evaluation, his many and widely consulted publications, his highly respected editorship of the premier journals in the field, including his current editorship of Professional Psychology, and his work on innovative and intensive mental health school programs for seriously emotionally disturbed children. It is in recognition of these extraordinary endeavors that the American Psychological Association presents Dr. Michael C. Roberts with this Presidential Citation.
